Lee like Mark I'm researching Dental lab software, we are located in Saudi Arabia and on line tech support is a big issue for us.

Have been looking at either Jenmar and QB for Lab (Mainstreet)

Likewise input and advice always appreciated. Thanks,

I'm not saying that I don't see the potential of what COULD be done with the iPhone, but I am saying that in this case I think more than anything they are protecting the stability of a phone more than limiting development of a computer.

Windows wireless zero configuration is a service; it can load before before the logon dialog. Not familiar w/ the Intel software, but I've used proprietary software w/ other cards and they can't load until a user logs in -- so the machine has no network connectivity until after someone logs in w/ cached credentials. You must have joined to the domain while logged in, so the Intel software was running.

I started using Google Apps with my domain and I haven't looked back yet. I had GMail before, but liked having an e-mail with my own domain. That being said, GMail had the option of downloading mail through POP, but I wanted to keep a copy on the server so I could do IMAP transfers if I ever moved hosts. There was already a delay in getting e-mail from my domain account as google only checked about every hour for new mail and with all the mail sitting on my server, it was starting to take GMail a long time to start downloading the latest messages. I ended up moving hosts (setting up my own VPS) and decided I didn't want to deal with e-mail and spam management so I decided to go with Google Apps for my domain. E-mail is now super fast, goes straight to my account, and I still have all the great features of GMail, but now with my own branding.

Lee,
As it happens I am looking for info on DentaLab for QB. What are the things you don't like about the software? and have you found something better? What if anything do you like? I am currently exploring options and am finding that nothing quite fits what I need unless I spend $5000+ not including all the hardware. Do you barcode for case tracking?

I have eight employees we will be opening second site for Lava milling and other digital technologies. I hope to link together enough to do some case tracking, something simple like PCanywhere or GoToMyPC.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Mark

You should check out Flickr's new capabilities. They can do most of the common photoshop functions (crop, rotate, etc) from a web interface.

I figure you will fall in love with Google Analytics. The availability and customization of all of the data they provide is absolutely astounding.

Good luck with this part of your projects.

Sometimes you're just going to have to be a prick to these people, especially if the content does not already exist. You've got to be a good "closer" to get the content from the stakeholders.

What I would do is set up a demonstration site for your business -- with that form already filled out from your business' standpoint.

Other inspiration may be to Happy Cog's Project Planner:

Ironic that the company that touts web standards is using a zip file and a MS Word document... =)

One thing you're neglecting is that some prepackaged CMSes cost money. Not all of them are free/open source.

I've been down this road thousands of times, so I'll add some of my war-torn input:

- Only dealing with one organization/site? Go with a prepackaged.

- Dealing with a ton of sites with similar, specific needs? Go custom.

It really depends on your org needs and cost/benefit. Why does your org. need a CMS? What benefit is having "current" easy to update content going to have on your business' bottom line?

Anyway... Take care.
